Hannah, Midwife & KG Hypnobirthing Teacher
With over five years of experience as a midwife in a busy London hospital and three years as a qualified KG Hypnobirthing teacher, I have had the privilege of supporting countless families through their birthing journeys. I bring a deep understanding of the physiological and emotional aspects of childbirth, offering comprehensive and empathetic care. My goal is to empower parents-to-be with the knowledge and techniques of hypnobirthing, helping them achieve a calm, positive, and confident birth.
What You Can Expect from My Classes:
In my hypnobirthing classes, you’ll learn relaxation, visualisation, and deep breathing techniques to help manage pain and stay in control during labour. We’ll explore how these techniques can reduce pain and fear, shorten labour, and decrease the need for medical intervention. The course is typically 10-12 hours long and is designed to boost your confidence, with a focus on partner involvement and creating a personalised birth plan. All participants receive ‘The Hypnobirthing Book’ by Katharine Graves and comprehensive audio recordings to support their practice.
Hypnobirthing is a childbirth preparation technique in the antenatal period that uses relaxation, visualisation, and deep breathing exercises to help pregnant women manage pain and feel more in control during labour, by essentially putting themselves into a deeply relaxed state, often through guided imagery and breathing techniques, to better cope with contractions and the birthing process. It also helps people learn about hospital procedures and alternatives.
Yes, KG Hypnobirthing can be effective in helping people feel more prepared and in control during labour. It can also help reduce pain and fear, and shorten labour.
Benefits of KG Hypnobirthing
- Pain and fear: Participants report feeling calmer, more relaxed, and in better control.
- Labour length: The second and third stages of labour are often shorter.
- Medical intervention: Less drugs and medical intervention are used.
- Postpartum recovery: Mothers often bounce back quicker after birth.
- Birth partner: The birth partner can learn how to support the mother and have an active role in the birth.
- Confidence: Participants feel more confident and have a clearer idea of what to expect.
To learn KGH Hypnobirthing, most courses take around 10-12 hours to complete, typically delivered over several sessions, including both theory and practice of relaxation techniques. While the course itself may be relatively short, consistent practice of relaxation techniques is crucial to fully integrate the methods.
The full learning process ideally taking place during the second and third trimester, or around 24-36 weeks of pregnancy.
You can absolutely take the course on your own, even if you don't have a partner, but we actively welcome partners to attend, participate and learn the techniques as it provides significant benefits for you both. Having a partner involved allows them to learn relaxation techniques, practice with you, and be actively present during the birth process, providing emotional and physical support.
If you are unable to have a partner present, or prefer to do the course on your own, we can tailor the course according to your needs.
Yes, hypnobirthing is generally considered a safe and non-invasive way to prepare for childbirth. Although it is called hypnobirthing, you won't be in a trance or asleep. You'll remain fully aware of your surroundings, feeling calm and in control. It is important to remember, however, that hypnobirthing does not guarantee a birth without medical interventions or complications.
Yes, some scientific research supports hypnobirthing, including KG Hypnobirthing, and the method is used in many NHS hospitals:
- Pain management: Hypnobirthing can reduce the need for pain medication during labour.
- Anxiety: Hypnobirthing can reduce anxiety in pregnant women.
- Labour length: Hypnobirthing can lead to shorter labours and fewer interventions.
- Birth satisfaction: Hypnobirthing can lead to higher birth satisfaction.
- Vaginal birth: Hypnobirthing may encourage vaginal birth.
During the course, we will explore:
- The different stages of labor, physiological changes in the body, and how to work with your body's natural birthing mechanisms
- The benefits of partner involvement
- Deep relaxation practices, guided imagery, and scripted visualisations to promote a calm state
- Specific breathing exercises for the different stages of labour
- Creating a personalised birth plan that outlines your preferences and desired birthing environment
- How to navigate the healthcare system while advocating for your needs
- Addressing anxieties and fears around childbirth
The 10-12 hour hypnobirthing course is priced at £480, which includes a copy of 'The Hypnobirthing Book' by Katharine Graves and all the accompanying course audio recordings.
